Question by Cameron: How good is yoga when it comes to getting ripped?
For some reason I’ve seen a lot of guys who do yoga and are quite ripped. Does yoga work really good to get a nice fit body? If so does it do it by itself or do you forcefully require to compliment it with some other kinds of exercises (going to the gym)?

Best answer:

Answer by Rebecca
Yes, I take dance and yoga. Yoga’s exercises make you stronger and tone muscles. You can get ripped from it but it’s not as easy as going only once a week. You have to be committed and do it 2-3 times a week for maybe an hour. Pelaties(not sure if spelled correctly) are also amazing muscle toning workouts. They are similar to yoga. I use pelaties for dance. Pelaties do work outs mostly for abs and upper body, but they do have some leg workouts. If you want to do this maybe you can find a class at your local gym. It’s quite a challenge and promises you muscle tone if you do the exercises correctly.

Answer by severus
The wisest action would be to speak to your doctor and get the green light from him/her. On reviewing a Yoga magazine today, the positions are incredible. The Yoga instructor is not a physical therapist. I wouldn’t recommend it.

People have been saying that being a Christian and doing yoga is dangerous.
Why is that?
Is it alright for me to use yoga as a tool to get in shape?
So as long as I use it JUST as a tool to get in shape, it’s alright?
Cause I really want to stick to my faith.
And the sarcastic answers are not appreciated so if you want to be sarcastic, then go be sarcastic somewhere else cause it is not welcome here.

I’m currently 19 weeks and attending prenatal yoga – I’m just finding it difficult to think about what I’m learning and the true context of labor!

To help me understand what I might be taking from the class that will during labor, please share how you put the techniques (breathing, position, relaxation etc) to use during labor.

Thank you!

Best answer:

Answer by Pikachu
I practiced prenatal yoga and attended the bradley method class. I had a waterbirth at home so yoga played a huge part in opening my hips and strenthening my legs, arms, and most importantly taught me the importance of breathing properly and deeply. Your baby loves the movements too- my baby would always sit on my siatic nerve which was very painful at times but yoga moves helped relieve the pain.

Believe me you will be grateful that you knew some of these yoga skills when you going thru labor pains.

Question by Ashely Corner: How do I convince my friend that yoga isn’t a competitive sport?
She is convinced that a sport is anything where you lift your leg above a certain point. I have told her a sport is a physical activity that you compete in but she doesn’t listen. Basketball players don’t lift their legs up to a certain point but it is still a sport (the certain point is above your waist). She says that competitive cheerleading (like competition type stuff) isn’t a sport but yoga is because in yoga you lift up your leg. You lift up your leg in cheerleading too but that isn’t why it’s a sport.

Question by Rachel Greenbaum: Is Kundalini yoga better for a cardio workout than Hatha or Jivamukti?
I’ve heard a lot of good things about kundalini yoga. I just want to know if anyone out there is an advanced practitioner. What’s it like? I heard it’s a lot more cardio-intensive than the other types. Would love some info on kundalini.

Best answer:

Answer by Matt Boyd
It’s not really cardio intensive. Its power comes from the Kundalini, an enormous reserve of untapped potential within each of us. It is normally depicted as a coiled or sleeping serpent, located in an area towards the base of the spine.

By gradually and safely awakening this serpent and employing its power, you will benefit greatly from an elevation in consciousness, promotion of physical well-being and an expansion of awareness. You will feel more relaxed and at ease with yourself. Your life will be transformed into one which is happy, healthy & harmonious.
