I haven’t yet tried any of the lipsticks from the original Maybelline Color Sensational line but when the new
The Pearls Collection came out, I was eager to try a few pale, frosty shades.
The Packaging: The tube is squared with a transparent pink cap. The actual tube is silver. I actually think the packaging is charming and cute -it stands out from other lipstick tubes.
The Product: Although $7.49 is a bit pricey for a drugstore lipstick, the lipstick contains a whopping 0.15 ounces which is a great value.
Most frost lipsticks tend to accentuate dry flakes and lip lines and this is no exception. It does do better than most frost lipsticks though -it looks good from a distance but up close, you can see that the lipstick still clings to my dry patches. For me, the formula feels a bit gritty but it’s surprisingly a little moisturizing (when I’m wearing it.)
The downside? After about 15 minutes, my lips start to burn. It’s not necessarily a painful burn –more of an uncomfortable, tingling sensation. Even after the lipstick is wiped away, I can still feel that “burn.†As for staying power, it lasts for 2 hours tops. If I eat, drink, or touch your lips, it rubs off immediately. After wiping off the final remnants of the lipstick, a lot of dry lip skin rubbed off with it and my lips are dryer -which is weird because it feels slightly moisturizing when applied. And lastly, the lipstick contains a disgusting artificial perfume-y rose scent that gives me a headache.
Maybelline Color Sensational The Pearls Lipstick in “Twinkle”
Maybelline Color Sensational The Pearls Lipstick in “Pearly Pink”
The Color: Frost lipsticks are generally not opaque. These shades are both sheer and give a lot of frost and a light dose of color.
1. Twinkle (705)- Frosty pale, almost white, pink with pink and silver shimmer. On my lips, the color is a frosty pale, white-ish pink.
2. Pearly Pink (720)- Frosty light, sparkling pink with shimmer. On my lips, it looks almost the same as Twinkle but a little more pinkish.
When I tried Pearly Pink on, it accentuated my lip lines a lot more than Twinkle because I tried it on second (these lipsticks really dry out the lips.)
I like Twinkle more -it gives me soft, frosty, angelic lips. The color is very toned down and could definitely be paired with bold or more neutral eyes.
Swatches.. (I’m sorry the lip swatches look so similar. In person, they do both look really similar but Twinkle is more of a white-ish pink while Pearly Pink is more pink.)

Overall: There are too many cons to this lipstick to make me repurchase it. It makes me lips dry and cracked, the scent gives me a headache, it’s not long lasting, and worse of all, it burns! I’m not willing to deal with all of that just because I semi-like how it looks. The value and packaging helped to boost the grade up as if it were solely based on the product quality, I’d give it a D+. I ended up giving these away.
