STOTRAPUSHPALU WISHES EVERYONE A HAPPY UGADI
Ugadi (Yuga + Aadi) which means the beginning of a new year. It is a day when predictions are made for the entire year regarding commodity prices,climatic conditions, Rashi Predictions (Zodiac signs and their influence in one’s life during the year) etc.,(It’s a tradition to listen Panchangam in the evening at the temple premises which is considered to be auspicious).

Ugadi pachadi is a special dish made on this day. It is made of NEW Jaggery, Tamarind, Raw Mango pieces, Neem flowers, Salt, Greenpepper. It’s a combination of Six tastes/Shadruchulu. Tamarind for Sourness, Mango for Tangyness, Greenpepper for Spicy, Neem flower/buds for Bitterness, Salt for Saltness.. This pachadi is made in different styles by various communities…some add roasted chanadal,coconut pieces,dry fruits, honey and various other ingredients to make the pachadi more tastier.

Our elders have intelligently explained by making this special dish on Ugadi to remind us that life is not always happy but there will be sometimes ups and downs too. We should accept all flavors of life together with equal balance.. then the life becomes much more beautiful and colorful.

Preparations for the festival:

It’s a tradition to decorate the doorway with fresh mango leaves (fresh leaves of mango tree is a symbolic invitation of auspicious events into lives and driving away negative energy).

This festival is celebrated in most of the communities in Maharashtra, Karnataka, Andhrapradesh. In Maharashtra it is called Gudipadava and in Andhra & Karnataka it is called as Ugadi.

Kavisammelanam – Poetry recitation is a typical telugu ugadi feature. Many popular /upcoming new poets come up with fresh poems written on various topics including modern life styles, trends and political issues.

Ashtebhyo bhramanebhyasya likhithwa yah samarpayeth
